The Howard Hughes Medical Institute recently awarded $1.5 million to faculty in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences to implement a program designed to draw more minorities, women, and those students who might not consider scientific careers into studies in the sciences early in their programs of study. Fulbright College faculty members have created specialized teams, pairing up six to 10 freshman students with researchers who will combine their expertise in biology, physics, and chemistry to study scientific problems from various perspectives.
