Degrees:
Ph.D. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, 1977Research Interests:
My research interests center around (1) the distribution and ecology of myxomycetes (plasmodial slime molds) in terrestrial ecosystems and (2) the community ecology of plants and fungi. Primary emphasis of my research on myxomycetes has been on analyzing patterns of microhabitat occupation, species composition, species diversity, and taxonomic diversity of these organisms in different types of ecosystems throughout the world. My research program has been carried out on six continents and from the tropics to high-latitude regions of both Hemispheres. Much of my previous research on community ecology has been directed towards the upland forests of the mid-Appalachians, particularly those dominated by various oak species. More recently, I've been studying the upland forests of the Ozarks. I am looking for students who are interested in studying some aspect of the community ecology of plants, fungi, or myxomycetes.
