The Department of Biological Sciences functions within the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. Courses and activities in the Fulbright College are focused on motivating and empowering students to develop a global perspective, which fosters creativity, integrity, teamwork, leadership, and ultimately personal and professional success.

Department in Action

The Department of Biological Sciences welcomes new faculty member, Dr. Xuan Zhuang:
Dr. Xuan Zhuang

Dr. Xuan Zhuang holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and she completed her B.S. and M.S. in Marine Biology from Xiamen University, China. Prior to coming to the University of Arkansas, she was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in evolutionary genetics at the University of Chicago. Dr. Zhuang’s research interests include evolution of genetic novelty and diversity, genetic variation of complex traits/diseases, molecular mechanisms and evolution of gene formation and gene loss. Investigations involve genomics, molecular evolution, and bioinformatics, in model (fruit flies) and non-model organisms (fishes).

The Department of Biological Sciences welcomes new COOP faculty member, Dr. Caleb Roberts:
Roberts, Caleb

Dr. Caleb Roberts holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy with a specialization in applied ecology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his Master's in Wildlife Science from Texas Tech University and earned his B.S. in Biology and Creative Writing at Murray State University. Caleb is an Assistant Unit Leader with the U.S. Geological Survey's Arkansas Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit, which is housed in the University of Arkansas. He studies invasive species, ecological resilience, landscape and spatial ecology, birds, grasslands, and fire.
