VASCULAR PLANTS

We are in the process of digitizing UARK’s estimated 130,000 vascular plant specimens. To date, nearly 89,000 of the in-state specimens have been fully digitized and are accessible through the SERNEC (Southeast Regional Network of Expertise and Collections) website.

BRYOPHYTES

UARK's collection of nearly 3,000 bryophyte specimens is available through the Consortium of North American Bryophyte Herbaria website.

SLIME MOLDS AND FUNGI

UARK also holds more than 10,000 specimens of slime molds and fungi, collected from around the world by retired U of A professor Dr. Steven Stephenson and his collaborators and students. Most of these specimens have been digitized and are available through the Mycology Collections Data Portal (MyCoPortal).

We appreciate the help of U of A students and community volunteers, including Arkansas Master Naturalists and Arkansas Master Gardeners, who devote time imaging specimens at the herbarium or entering specimen label information remotely through the Notes from Nature online platform. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this effort, please email the collections manager.

An important note about offensive language on specimen labels: Collection records at UARK may contain language that reflects historical place or taxon names in an original form that is no longer acceptable or appropriate in an inclusive environment. Because UARK preserves data in their original form to retain authenticity and to facilitate research, we have chosen to facilitate conversations and are committedd to address the problem of racial, derogatory and demeaning language that may be found in our database. Insensitive or offensive language is not condoned by UARK.
